Ronald Emmerich, who directed the spectacle event films Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, The Patriot and 10,000 B.C., reportedly has a budget of $200 million for the apocalyptic tale.
It's based on the ancient Mayan myth that the world will undergo a catastrophe on Dec. 21, 2012, when it will enter into a new spiritual age.
